Over the counter products vs. professional products
I get asked all the time what the difference is between over the counter products and professional products. First of all, over the counter products are any products you can buy in a store or online, that anyone can sell. Anything from a department store, drug store to individuals who represent a company like Mary Kay or Avon. Professional products can only be sold by a Dermatologist, licensed Esthetician or Cosmetologist.
There are many differences between the two types of products. The biggest difference is that professional products have a much higher percentage of active ingredients. These are the ingredients that are doing the work on your skin. With higher active ingredients, you get better results.
Also, when buying professional products, you are working with someone trained in skin histology and someone who is trained to know how different ingredients will effect your skin. Knowing what products you need is very important when it comes to treating skin conditions such as acne, hyperpigmentation or roseacea.
